Spire View Housing Association finishes first new Housing Project since 2005!
Spire View Housing Association is pleased to announce that their Glenbarr Street development, the first since 2005, is completed and all 24 properties have been allocated.
2016 saw the beginnings of this project with the Association being approached to see if they would be interested in considering the purchase of the site for development purposes. Shortly after this, with the support of Development and Regeneration Services at Glasgow City Council, they were able to conduct a feasibility study to determine whether the re-development of the site was a viable option.
Following full consideration of all the options and potential risks, the decision was taken by the Management Committee to progress the development and in April 2019, Spire View were delighted to receive grant funding approval from Glasgow City Council to allow them to proceed and when building warrant and planning approval was granted, it was full steam ahead.
The goal was to create 24 brand new properties that would bring over three million pounds of housing investment into the area.
Demolition works to the old building were completed in December 2019 and things were looking up with official works beginning in January 2020. Fantastic progress was being made when suddenly COVID-19 hit and the site had to close on the 26th of March 2020.
However, this was merely a bump in the road for Spire View.
Works began again on the 22nd of June 2020, yet, there were recurring halts in progress due to lockdowns and coronavirus restrictions amongst other things.
The process was long but by the beginning of 2022 the project was almost done with the Housing Management Team beginning allocations in February 2022.
The project consists of 24 brand new properties:
- 21 x 3 apartment, 4 person flats
- 2 x 3 apartment, 3 person wheelchair adaptable flats
- 1 x 4 apartment, 5 person flat
Margaret Brownlie, Depute Director of Spire View Housing Association said: “There are still some minor issues to be attended to externally but overall, the Association is absolutely delighted with the finished development and we would like to express our gratitude to everyone who has made this possible.
“We also appreciate all of the patience and understanding shown by local residents over the inconvenience cause by road closures and temporary displacement of bus stops which were required as part of the works.”
Now, come May 2022, all 24 properties have been allocated and the new tenants are loving their new homes.
Amani Yunis, a tenant at Glenbarr Street said: “I really love my new flat, it’s so much bigger than the one I was in before and I really don’t see any faults with it.”
“The new Glenbarr street development looks really good, even from a distance, they look fantastic!”
Spire View Housing Association would like to wish all of their new tenants in Glenbarr Street the very best in their new homes.
